Fair price for computer repair?

I often fix computers for friends and people in my town. I dump them out and reinstall the OS for them. I make already loaded OS faster and etc. but i never seem to know what to charge. what is a fair price for 1.dumping+reinstalling 2.physical cleaning and 3.tuneups?

Hi there.  This kind of depends on the average repair cost of computer repair shops in your area, but for ours, I charge a flat rate for doing certain tasks and, if it's troubleshooting, I charge $50/hr.  For a wipe and load, for instance, I'll charge a flat $75 for the whole thing since they typically take a couple of hours to wipe/install the OS and get all drivers back onto the system.

    You might be better served to simply call around and ask them what they charge for what you do for your customers and let that be your baseline for what you want to charge.

  3. As a smoker I usually ask for a couple or three packs of hand rolling tobacco for the repair depending on how much work is needed. By doing that the customer seems happier since they could always get the 'baccy off the black market if they are really hard up. I tend to service the low earners so I don't expect much in return.

  4. As much as they can afford.
