Question:

Fair price for mini mare?

So for my daughters birthday I am getting her a mini mare. (yes! I know they are responsibility and live animals and require care even when she outgrows it and all that-i've gone through a 2 state move as well as a pregnancy and school and changing jobs (and all the other things people use as excuses for giving up animals) with the animals I have and my animals have all been fixed, etc.

Anyways...my question is: Is $600 a fair deal for her?

She is about 10 years old and not registered. She is gentle with kids and is used to being around dogs and isn't skiddish of cars or anything like that. Plus, the people are going to be bringing her to me from 2 hrs. away. She is really pretty brown girl.

  1. Yes $600 is fair for an older mare. I have had mini's since 1985 and I started buying registered mares for that price.

I would not breed her either, she's an older mare with no known history.

You cannot spay a mare, so expect to deal with her in heat during the summer, she may be a little nasty. If you do not have a stallion within scent range, you should be a little better off.

    Good Luck

  2. I'd say it's definitely a fair deal for her. Even if she's not registered, there's always the possibility of breeding her and selling the foals, and she sounds very good-tempered, which is definitely worth paying a bit extra. And if they're bringing her to you from two hours away, it's even better. Hope you guys enjoy your new family member. :)
