Fair weather friends?

Question

i used to have riding buddies that rode bikes with me when the weather was really nice. but if it got too hot, they wouldnt answer the phone. or if it rained, they said they didnt want to get wet. even moreso, when it used to snow they thought i was insane, is this how the expression came about?????

If that ISN'T how the expression came about, you are a shining example of what it means - LOL.  Granted I ride on the back - but I LOVE riding and don't care what the weather is.  I live in NE and rode on New Years Day - sucked, but I still kinda loved it.

I would be overjoyed with 'some' rain not like a hurricane a lot but just a few strong showers.....
