Fairhousing Rights is this against them

I am trying to get an apartment and I found one that I wanted to go to and they said that I couldn't move there because I have a parfinila charge i am sorry i dont know how to spell that but for a mariujuana pipe on my record is this against fair housing because they can only tell me no for the felonys but i dont have any of them! thanks

  1. A landlord can refuse to rent for any reason except an unlawful reason--for example, based on race, religion, national origin, disability.  Being charged with possession of drug paraphernaliaa does not put you in a protected class.  So, no, your fair houising rights have not been violated.


  2. No. "Drug offenders" are not a group protected under fair housing laws.

  3. Seems like they are getting strict about drug paraphanilas(sp) these days which is rightly so..

    I'd suggest clean your act up if you want a place to move too.. good luck

  4. I think you need a good Social Worker or two. The Social Worker could get this situation fixed. Try calling Volunteers of America as they have great dedicated Social Workers. They helped me!
