Pakistan’s middle-order batsman, Faisal Iqbal, has vowed to cement his place in the national team during the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 next month and expressed that he never lost hope during his time away from international cricket.
Iqbal came through the ranks of junior cricket in the country and represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at Under-16 and Under-19 level. The right-handed batsman made his international debut in 2000 and has played 26 Tests and 18 One Day Internationals for his country. However,
the Karachi-born cricketer has so far failed to cement his place in the national team.
After some consistent runs in the 2011-12 domestic season, Faisal has been recalled to the Pakistan team for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Some of the cricket analysts believe that the selection committee should have gone with the youngsters,
instead of giving another opportunity to the tried and tested individual.
Faisal is still positive about his future and believes that he has always played under the shadow of Inzamam ul Haq, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325. This time round, the 30-year-old cricketer is confident of finding a permanent spot in the team as there
are not many senior batsmen around.
"In the past I have been playing mainly as a replacement player [in the national team], which is why I wasn't able to cement a permanent place. But now I think I can make it. The last two years have been tough but I kept my fingers crossed and was optimistic,”
Faisal said.
The right-handed batsman is the nephew of legendary Pakistani cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580, and there is a school of thought within the country and outside that believes Faisal has played so much domestic and international cricket just
because of his uncle. Iqbal feels that his performances speak for his abilities and it is about time that the cricket fraternity in Pakistan realizes this.
He added, "Being a nephew of Miandad, you [journalists] knew very well how my cricket suffered. It's very tough to cope with such pressure. I was a soft target for many and my selection was criticized on grounds of nepotism though
my performance was a convincing one."
