Faisalabad overpower Lahore, 5-0 to clinch PHF Junior Super Hockey League: Hockey News
In a quite one-sided contest, Faisalabad overpowered Lahore by three points, 5-2 in the finals of the 3rd PHF Junior Super Hockey League played on May 08, at the National Hockey Stadium, Lahore.
Muhammad Asif Bajwa, the Secretary General of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and former Olympian, distributed the trophies and prize money with the worth of PKR 0.6 million for winners, Faisalabad, and PKR 0.4 million for the runner-up squad, Lahore.
Faisalabad established their dominance since the very first minute of the game. In the third minute, Faisalabad striker, Bilal Qadir, found a gap in the Lahore defensive circle and unleashed a shot in the goal, opening the score 1-0. Dilber Hussain managed
to take ball inside the circle and past Lahore custodian to double the tally in the 23rd minute of the match. An end-to-end play was observed in the remaining time period, as Lahore failed to get any score in the first 35 minutes of the match. First
half of play was concluded with Faisalabad holding a couple of goals’ lead 2-0.
The players from the two teams gathered up pace with every passing minute in the second half of play. The opening minutes of the second half was filled with lot of attacks and counter-attacks, but to no avail. Mohammad Fahad of Lahore was the player who
notched first goal for his team in the 52nd minute of the game and reduced the lead down to a single point.
In a counter-attack, Waseem Abbas scored a goal in the 57th minute of the game. Arslan Sherazi of Lahore added second goal in the 64th minute to make a return into the game. However, Mohammad Rizwan of Faisalabad added a couple of goals in the
68th and 70th minutes to seal the victory at 5-3. With impressive victory, Faisalabad clinched the title of the 3rd Junior Super Hockey League.
In the play-off game, Multan edged past Sialkot by a single point, 7-6 and secured third position in the league. After the regulation and extra times, the scores were equalled at three-all. Mohammad Osama, Hafiz Zohaib, Asif Aslam, Faisal, Mohammad Arslan
and Mohammad Zeeshan of Multan took part in the scoring for Multan and made the victory possible on penalty shoot-outs.
From the other side, Ali Butt and Muhammad Sabir scored a couple of goals apiece while Mohammad Suleman and Azfar Yaqoob added one goal each in the loss.
Bilal Qadir of Faisalabad was named as Player of the Tournament and awarded a prize worth of PKR 25,000. Multan managed the third position and earned a cash prize worth of PKR 30,000.
