Faithful Eagle soars to big A2 victory at Perry Barr
A greyhound can sometimes be likened to a four-legged eagle. Both are capable of swift, graceful moves, and can increase or decrease their speed at will. Faithful Eagle increased his speed to such an extent
that it gave him a close victory in the first of two 480m A2 races at the Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium on Tuesday 16 November.
A bounding start from trap two saw Faithful Eagle, the 9-4 favourite, hold an early pace over the rest of the pack. He would go on to lead at the quarter mark, and that was enough to secure him the top
spot with a time of 28.62 seconds. Finishing just ¾ lengths behind the favourite was Cavies Belle (11-4), who crowded fourth, but ran on to take second place in 28.68.
Third place was claimed by Hard Shaw (3-1). He moved quickly away and led to the quarter, finishing the race in 28.74, which was ¾ lengths behind second place. Blue Agenda (5-1) missed a break early on,
but held an early pace soon afterward. However, he lost 4¾ lengths after being forced to check third, resulting in a fourth-place finish in 29.12.
Fabulous Tide (8-1) went wide and lacked an early pace. He went on to finish the race in fifth place with a time of 29.18, which placed ¾ lengths behind Blue Agenda. The sixth and final position went to
Natal (6-1), who went wide, but had a clear run. His time of 29.22 placed him a ½ length out of fifth place.
He Is Icey iced the competition in the second A2 race. Despite crowding first and third, the 2-1 favourite quickly rebounded to lead the pack and win the race with a time of 28.72. Autumn Fashion (4-1)
moved quickly away, crowded first, and led to third to take second place in 28.80. He was just a single length behind the winner.
After crowding second, Denises Star (4-1) ran on to lay claim on third place. Her finishing time of 29.00 was 2½ lengths behind Autumn Fashion. Reach For It (4-1) started wide, and was handy at second.
However he failed to reach the top three, finishing three lengths behind third place in 29.24 to lock up fourth place.
Belvedere Oscar (8-1) went wide early in the race, and lacked an early pace. Despite that, he only lost a ½ length, finishing fifth in 29.28. Dawnstown Molly (5-1) brought up the rear after she was forced
to check second. She completed the race in 29.42, 1¾ lengths out of the fifth position.
Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium will hold its next race meeting on Friday 19 November. The first race begins at 19:25.
