Faizal Saari is emerging as a future star of the Malaysian hockey
The 20-year-old Malaysian young gun Faizal Saari is emerging as a star on the horizon of international hockey. Faizal, who is currently featuring in the Australian Hockey League for the Southern Hotshots, is improving himself in each aspect of the game.
He is showing a lot of progress in his dribbling skills, his stick work and coordination with other team-mates.
Faizal Saari has 55 international appearances for Malaysia under his belt and he was also one of the members of the Malaysian squad that won the silver medal in the Asian Games, which was held in Guangzhou last year in November.
“I made steady progress and represented Kelantan for the first time in the National Under-12 tournament. My good performance in the meet resulted in me being picked to join the Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS) in Form One,” Faizal Saari told about his
early days in the sport.
His younger brother, Fitri, who is the captain of Under-18 team that recently participated in the Junior Asia Cup in Singapore, is also gaining repute at the national level. Fitri led the junior team well in the event and finished at the second spot behind
Korea.
Faizal told that he started to play hockey when he was a student at the Kok Pauh Primary School in Kelantan and initially one of his teachers brought him into the sport of hockey.
“The standard of hockey in Australia at the national level is really competitive and tough. It’s good for me to play against the best players so that I can learn new things,” said Faizal further stated about the standard and the level of hockey in Australia
at their domestic set-up.
“I will return to Australia on Aug 1 to feature for Southern Hotshots in the knockout stage and I hope to score a couple of goals to further sharpen my scoring skills,” he further stated about his return to Australia.
He was pretty pleased with his performance in the Australian Hockey League, where he scored a total of ten goals in eight matches. He scored three out of his total ten goals, while playing for Southern Hotshots in five matches and the other seven were scored
playing for Forestville, at the state-level Adelaide League.
