Question:

Fake Meats?

Are there any (unfortunately processed) fake meats that are gluten-free and don't contain much--if any soy?

Anti-veggie remarks won't be appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Quorn is made from mycoprotein (sort of like mushrooms) and is not bad at all. You can get it frozen in minced-style, chunks for stews, burgers, sausages and also in ready meals/tv dinners. It's pertty good, and makes a mean curry.

  2. there are many fake meats, but all i have been able to find have soy/gluten.

your best bet is make your own with beans & lentils.

  3. There are some gluten-free veggie burgers, but gluten-free and soy-free is hard to find. All these are from Gardenburger, so hopefully you live in an area where they sell these:

    Gluten-free:

    Black Bean Chipotle burgers

    Flame Grilled

    Veggie Breakfast Sausage

    Soy-Free:

    GardenVegan

    Sun Dried Tomato Basil

**I just found a company that sells all ORGANIC AND WHEAT/SOY FREE BURGERS.  They are called Sunshine Burgers. Check them out: http://sunshineburger.com/index2.html

  4. I couldn't find any "fake meat" that is gluten-free.Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) is soy based but it doesn't have gluten. Bob's Red Mill has a whole list of gluten-free products and they have some good recipes:

We use TVP for sloppy joe's and veggie chili. Good sources for protein are eggs, milk, cheese, nuts& seeds. I hope this helps/

  5. Yes, go the some of the vegetarian websites and you should fine some things.

  6. Not that I know of, but the new Barilla Pasta plus has 17g of protein and loads of Omega 3 in it.  It's a good protein sub in my family.
