Fake injury fine: Pittsburgh Steelers WR Emmanuel Sanders to appeal $15K penalty – NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has become furious over the decision of the National Football League (NFL) office to slap a $15K fine on him and said he will definitely appeal the decision.
He has not mentioned the date of filing the plea and also whether the Pittsburgh Steelers, who too were imposed a $35K penalty over not informing players about the penalty rules, will lodge the appeal or have decided against it.
The team’s plea will be crucial as far as standing a chance of the player’s appeal is concerned and without it, it is difficult for the player to get the verdict in his favour.
Sanders said:
"We're going to appeal it, and that's it. I don't know what they were trying to do, but that's not for me to think about. We're just going to appeal it, and we'll deal with it then. I don't know who we have to appeal it to, but I'm talking with my agent
and the NFLPA to find out just how we have to go about appealing it."
Both parties have been fined $50K in total over faking of a leg injury by the player in their game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
According to details of the incident, Sanders caught his leg from the back and collapsed on the field. He was helped on the sidelines by the team trainer. He then returned to action perfectly all right after missing just one play, and his post-return run
and actions created an impression that his injury was not real.
The league office while slapping the penalty on him said that the video evidence did not support the player’s claim of the injury and he therefore was fined. The office also denied finding any evidence that the Steelers had instructed or condoned faking
of the injury to their players.
Still, the office maintained the team should have informed their players about the injury and disciplinary rules and Sanders’ incident showed negligence on their part. No one from the team has offered any comments since reporting of the incident and it is
still not clear if the Steelers have accepted the penalty or going to challenge it.
