The Colombian hitman, Falcao, doesn’t believe that Atletico Madrid can win La Liga this season, and admitted that qualifying for the Champions League next season is the realistic approach.
Atletico Madrid have been the surprise package of the current season, winning six of their seven La Liga games so far, the Spanish capital-based club are on a great run.
Despite being level on points with Barcelona at the top of the table, Falcao feels winning the title this season is beyond the club’s reach due to the huge financial gap between Atletico Madrid and the duopoly of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and Real Madrid.
"We are capable for qualifying the Champions League. Now, in the championship, we are fighting against teams with a bigger budget and who have the best players in the world," he admitted.
Falcao also talked about the importance of being consistent throughout the season and focusing on each game as it comes if Atletico want to continue their current resurgent form and achieve their objectives.
"We must be very consistent all year to be able to achieve our goal,” he asserted.
"We worry about overcoming the opponent we have each Sunday. That way, we get closer to the end of the season."
The Colombian has started this season with a bang, scoring eight goals so far in the season, a tally which takes him ahead of Messi and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 on the basis of number of matches played by each player.
"It is a momentary thing, because everything is very tight, but I am enjoying being ahead at the moment," he said.
He was also asked about their current form and the impact his coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Simeone is having on the team.
"Since Simeone arrived, he has given them a good mentality. I believe they can fight to stay up there."
Finally, Atletico are also the favourites to win the Europa League again this season and they have already won the opening two games in their group.
For their next La Liga match, Atletico Madrid will travel to Anoeta on October 21st.
