Fall Garden; which vegetables & flowers?

Question

I am wanting to plant my first garden. I live in north central Texas and would like to start planting around September 1st.

What plants can I plant? I would like an assortment of vegetables and flowers and any fruits or berries that can be planted as well.

I've never planted a garden so I'm completely in the dark as to where to start. If anyone has a link to a site that could give me step by step instructions on planting a fall garden or a book that would be wonderful.
