Fallout from New Orleans Saints bounty scandal continues - NFL News
The fallout from New Orleans Saints bounty scandal continues as a new report by
Sports Illustrated magazine paints a vivid picture on the operation.
In an article titled “Way out of bounds” the magazine’s senior contributor Peter King alleges that Gregg Williams used to give out white envelopes filled with money to each player on his defensive unit as a bonus for performance.
King alleges that when the cash was doled out players from the defensive line would start up chants of "Give it back! Give it back! Give it back!"
The payments started out with small amounts with a $ 100 bonus but reached a maximum during the Saints run to the Super Bowl title in the 2009-10 season.
According to King and corroborated by the National Football League (NFL) http://www.senore.com/New-Orleans-Saints-caught-operating-illegal-bounty-system-for-three-seasons-NFL-News-a133748, Saints defensive line captain and linebacker Jonathan Vilma put up a $ 10,000 bounty for the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship game in 2009.
Vilma offered the money to any player who knocked out then Vikings quarterback Brett Favre from the game.
The game itself was feisty affair and Favre was punished hard by a charged Saints defensive unit. The Saints defensemen repeatedly pounced on the quarterback and the veteran faced some strong hits.
Favre was later taken off the field after spraining his ankle badly in the third quarter and lineman Anthony Hargrove celebrated with his teammates saying
"Favre is out of the game! Favre is done! Favre is done!"
With the NFL investigation revealing the extent of the Saints bounty program it is now clear why Favre was specifically targeted and deliberately hurt by his opponents.
In an http://www.senore.com/Legendary-quarterback-Brett-Favre-shares-his-thoughts-on-New-Orleans-Saints-bounty-scandal-NFL-News-a133827 though the legendary quarterback did not believe that there was anything wrong with the Saints players putting out a bounty on him and said that it was all part of the game.
The NFL is likely to punish the Saints heavily and all coaching staff and players involved in the illegal activity are set to receive suspensions in addition to heavy fines with commissioner Roger Goodell likely to make an example out of the franchise to
deter any such future activities.
