Falsely Accuse Car Accident: Person wants to file me as hit and run ?

I had a car accident and then gave the person who I had the car accident with my insurance information such as my policy number and driver license number. I then filed the report to my insurance company regarding the accident,. Then few months later I received a call from the person I had the accident with, they said that they needed my claim number but I didn't give it to him. I have no idea why he wanted my claim number when I gave him all the information he needed to file. He threaten to file me as "hit and run" to the police by the end of the week. Should I be worry ? What would be best for me to do ? Thanks

  1. You can prove him wrong - because you put in a claim & admitted to the accident...

Don't let him scare you - you've done the right thing

***EDIT*** How many identities DO you have?

  2. Go to your local police station and speak to someone there, they will advise you on the best action to take, make sure though you tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth while your speaking to them ... don't worry I don't feel the other person will speak to the police but you do need to cover youirself. By what you have said you don't have any thing to worry about.

  3. If you filed a claim with your company-- there should be a claim number.

Call your insurance company and find out what the claim number is.  Then call the guy and give him the claim number, adjusters name and phone number.

If your insurance company does not have a claim number -- that means that the claim was not filed.  Therefore, you file the claim with your company.  If they don't give you the claim number - ask for it (and a phone number for the claims department). Then call the guy and give him the claim number and phone number.

You did the right thing giving him the info. So finish the job. Apparently he is having a hard time filing the claim. So you need to.

  4. he needs to let the insurance companies handle it. I wouldnt worry about a hit and run,,if the does, you can sue him for defamation of character or slander.

  6. Why don't you just give him the claim number? He isn't going to steal your identity with it.
