Fame And Glory and Almudena stand out in the weak field of the Breeders’ Cup Marathon
A highly moderate line-up has collected for the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Marathon that will be held at Santa Anita over a mile and six furlongs on Friday, 2nd November, 2012. Fourteen three-year-old and above contestants are going to try their luck
at the lucrative prize money.
For majority of the candidates, the graded level will pass as their debut attempt.
The two clear prospects for the race are the Aidan O’Brien trained, Fame And Glory and Almudena. Both have attempted the level before, but it was Fame And Glory who was more proficient at it.
The 11 to 2 prospect for the race won the Group 1 Gold Cup at Ascot race course over two miles and four furlongs on 16th June, 2011, but has failed to impress the connections and the crowds in the four outings of the 2012 season.
The six-year-old bay horse lost all the graded races, and won only the seasonal debut.
Montjeu’s son won the Vintage Crop Stakes (Listed Race) on 20th May, 2012 at Navan race course over a mile and six furlongs.
The favourite entry was accompanied over the track distance by the stable jockey, Joseph O’Brien, and the duo defeated, Unaccompanied, by a neck’s mark.
Three failures down the season with jockey, Jamie Spencer, might just give Fame And Glory the much anxiously awaited breather in the race today. He will race from the second stall, and will be under the supreme guidance of the jockey, Jamie Spencer.
The five-year-old bay mare, Almudena, has the most experience at the identical level, but under different set of competition. This will be her first time in North America and if she will be able to take over the rest of the lot or not is something that is
quizzical. Looking at the brighter end of the situation, Silver Planet’s daughter owned by, Manning, might just as well take the advantage of the weak field, and post in a success in the current season.
She won the Group 2 Presidente De La Republica on 30th October, 2011 at Monterrico over a mile and four furlong.
