Fame And Glory headed to Ascot to defend his Gold Cup after competing at Leopardstown on 8th June, 2012
The Aidan O’Brien trained, Fame And Glory, will compete in the Seamus & Rosemary McGrath Memorial Saval Beg Stakes at Leopardstown on 8th June, 2012, where he will have to face many tough competitors including Saddler’s Rock
and Unaccompanied, over a distance of 1 mile and 6 furlongs.
Under rider, J.P. O’Brien, the runner landed a victory over, Unaccompanied, by a marginal difference of a neck in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan on 20th May, 2012, in his seasonal debut.
The bay horse sealed his previous season with a brilliant victory, as well as he scored in the Group 3 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot on 15th October, 2011, where he defeated, Opinion Poll, by 1 ¼ lengths.
The son of Montjeu, out of mare Gryada, has had his fair share of success over the course of his career, and is on his way to Ascot, where his stamina and form will be tested further.
He will attempt to defend his title on 21st June, 2012 in the Group 1 Gold Cup.
Last year, Fame and Glory took down Godolphin owned and Mahmood Al Zarooni trained, Opinion Poll, by 3 lengths to win the Gold Cup at Ascot on 16th June, 2012.
Dermot Weld's charge, Unaccompanied, will aim for the victory this time around as he was narrowly beaten at Navan in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan on 20th May.
The son of Danehill Dancer, out of mare Legend Has It, raced as a favourite with a 9-10 chance in the Navanracecourse.IE Race, where he defeated the Kevin Prendergast trained, Rising Wind, by 1 ¾ lengths and excelled under the command of rider, P.J.
Smullen on 29th April, 2012.
Saddler’s Rock, trained by John M Oxx, will give Fame And Glory a run for his money at the event on 8th June as well as the Gold Cup, as he is in remarkable form.
The son of Sadler´s Wells, out of mare Grecian Bride, aced the Group 2 Stobart Doncaster Cup in September, 2011, and will be coming back to bag a few more.
