Fame And Glory looking to defend his title in the Group 1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot
It looks like, Fame And Glory and Opinion Poll, will renew their rivalry when they come face to face in the Group 1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on 21st June, 2012, where they will fight to prove whose the better runner over a course
of 2 miles and 4 furlongs.
The Aidan O’Brien trained, Fame And Glory, has secured a number of Group 1 victories and this time, the son of Montjeu , out of mare Gryada, will fight to defend his title that he claimed by defeating, Opinion Poll, by 3 lengths last year.
The two runners are creating a buzz in the market, since both of them are in an incredible form, but the real question is that, who will come out of the race as the victor.
Mahmood Al Zarooni’s trainee, Opinion Poll, started his season with a commendable performance, when he finished second to ,Fox Hunt, in the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy Sponsored By Attijari Al Islami at Meydan
He improved after that runner-up performance by claiming two victories after that, and he is now seeking to land the Gold Cup for his third victory of the season.
The six-year-old will be paired with jockey, Mickael Barzalona in this race, since Frankie Dettori will be teamed with, Colour Vision, who is owned by Godolphin and is currently under the training of Saeed Bin Suroor.
Ray Cochrane, Dettori’s agent, stated to the press that:
"It was Frankie's decision. It's taken a while for him to make up his mind but he has decided to go with the younger horse as he thinks he has improved a lot from last year. It's going to be a great race. I think we all hope it's run on decent ground."
The four-year-old, Colour Vision, recently triumphed in the Group 3 Blue Square Levy Board Sagaro Stakes at Kempton in May, 2012, where he trumped Ed Dunlop trained Red Cadeaux, by a margin of 1 ½ lengths.
This victory showed that the runner has remarkably improved and he is ready to compete in a Group 1 event.
Saddler’s Rock will be representing trainer John M. Oxx while John Gosden has entered Nehaam and Caucus into this event.
