Famed conditioning coach Tim Grover says Eddy Curry is good to go: NBA News
Former big man of the New York Knicks, Eddy Curry, who played just three games in 2008-09 season and seven in 2009-10, surfaced on the scene about two months back when reports of Miami Heat’s interest in him emerged.
At that time, many questions were raised about the fitness of the burly centre. Curry has been following a strict fitness regime since then and recently famed conditioning coach Tim Grover said in an interview that the 7 ft big
is in “excellent shape” and there is “no question” he is ready to make a comeback in National Basketball Association.
According to Grover, the Thornwood high school product has been able to reduce lot of weight under his training and is in a good shape. This means that whenever the NBA owners and players reach an agreement over the new Collective
Bargaining Agreement, he will be ready for the action.
The Chicago based trainer didn’t disclose the current weight of Curry, but as per previous figures, Eddy lost 50 pound until August from March this year when his weight used to be 350. The 28 year old is a free agent this summer
and Miami Heat had shown interest in the big man, who is also keen to return to the court.
During the interview Grover also told that it was he, who barred Curry from participating in the charity game held in Florida last weekend that features All-Star LeBron James because the famed trainer believed that “these are not
games for big men.”
Grover was right to an extent because JaVale McGee failed to leave a good impression on his fellows, when he failed to dominate the opposing players in the Drew/Goodman rematch in spite of the fact that there was no one to match
his size on the floor, but he barely got the ball.
Curry, who had a brilliant 2006-07 season with the Knicks in which he touched career high-scoring during a single-season 19.5 points to go along with seven rebounds per game, failed to live up to the expectations in the next season,
as his averaged dropped to 13.2 points a contest.
When the training camp for the 2008-09 season started, Curry was found out of form once again, which enrage the head coach Mike D’Antoni and as a result of that Eddy didn’t just lost his job, but also failed to make it in to D’Antoni’s
rotation. Besides this, Curry’s right knee got sore and it kept nagging him in most part of that season.
So with no appearance in the charity game and considering the above mentioned facts it is little hard to believe that Curry has got the groove just by believing the words of the famed trainer, who is looking to reintroduce his
client in the league.
However, no one can deny the fact that NBA teams are in need of big men, so don’t get surprise to hear if a franchise invites Curry to its camp in the next season (if it takes place).
