Planning a trip for myself, wife and 1 1/2 yr old.

Looking for best recommendations/advice for trip to Cancun and/or surrounds. Best time of year ?

Not sure if Mexico is suitable for youngsters as I hear many people pick up stomach bugs? Never traveled down south.

Not against hoping on another plane from above destinations to get to appropriate setting ...

  1. We stayed just South of Cancun and North of Playa Del Carmen in the Riviera Maya.  We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar.  It is a gorgeous place with lots of activities.  They also have Lucys kids club that is free of charge for the kids to play with other kids, make crafts, go swimming, and participate in a nightly kids show.  They also have a playground there.  They also have nightly entertainment, a disco, and great restaurants.  In the last two years, I went there for 14 days and the other time was for 10 days to the same resort.

It is an Apple Vaction and Fun Jet Vacation Hotel.  The staff is very friendly, nice rooms, and not one complaint about it.  Type into google Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar in Riviera Maya, Mexico and you will be able to see all the great stuff with this resort that is all inclusive.

Also, if you are worried about getting a "bug" from eating the food, that is a risk when you go to any international destination.  You can go to the walk-in clinic and let them know the circumstances and they will be able to get you the right pills.

Also, Playa Del Carmen is 30 minutes away which is where all the shopping is.  The resort has complimentary tour bus that drops you off and picks you up.  The times are really reasonable as well and you never have to worry about getting picked up because the bus will be there.

Have fun!  I know you won't be disappointed with this hotel.

  2. go a little farther down the yucatan akumal, puerto adventuras, ect  much safer and family orented I love PA great small town safe and close to every thing

  3. I suggest you go to Playa Del Carmen. It is much more family oriented, Cancun has a club type atmosphere. PDC has a few bars and is very laid back. The main street in PDC is 5Th Ave., there is plenty of shopping, restaurants and a few small bars. You will be able to walk around and take the baby all over PDC. Check out tripadvisor.com to find out information about PDC hotels. Make sure you find a map so you can see how close the hotels are to town. Some are pretty far away.

Everything you may want to see is located around or south of PDC. Xcaret is 5 min. away and Xel-Ha\Tulum is just south. You can check out playatrips.com to find out about these eco-parks and ruins. I highly recommend playatransfers.com for ground transportation to and from the airport.

PDC is only 40 miles south of Cancun, so you just take a van to your destination. There are some real nice hotels in the area and even some great condos. Playacar Palace (All-Inclusive) is a great hotel in a great location a two minute walk to the south end of 5Th Ave. (Xaman-Ha condos, xhcondos.com next door to Playacar Palace is another option)

Best time of year to visit, winter time is great weather in the 80's, spring time is also very nice. Summer and fall are tricky because of the Hurricane season and it is very hot. (90's) (most active months are August thru November)

The stomach bug comes from local tap water, just about everyone offers bottled water. Stay away from anything made from the tap water and you will be just fine. Bottled water rules in Mexico, it's everywhere.
