  1. about 200 a week family of 4 in ny

  2. In our family we tried two things:

We stop buying luxury stuff like ice cream, chips, etc.

We have our own vegetable garden, we don't have to buy, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, green beans, eeg plants, herbs for about 3 months.

Beleive me this help a lot!!

  3. I have 3 kids and myself and I spend on average $150 a week on groceries.  And yes that is buying store brands, very little snacks, and the bare necesserities..

  4. Great Question! I was thinking of asking the same thing myself.

I am in Georgia and I spend about 275 a week for myself, husband, three kids and two dogs.  We don't have a walmart close by (nearest one is 50 minutes away) So I have to spend more at the local mom and pops place.

I clip coupons, even buy coupons on eBay for stuff I buy on a regular basis, like Toilet paper, yogurt, plastic baggies,  etc.

I plan my weekly menus by the sales circular. If it's on sale, we're gonna eat it that week. I also get my eggs, milk and butter from a local farmer, which saves me a few dollars a week. We have a big chest freezer, and I also buy sides of beef and pork, which saves big bucks there.

Next year we are planning on growing our own garden too.

My kids don't get prepackaged foods in their lunch boxes.  For example, buy a big bag of chips and put them in little plastic bags yourself.  Stuff like that.

If I have time I'll add a little more later, but now I have to get my boys in the tub.....they just came inside and look like they have most of the backyard on them!

  5. I live in a family of  five and we spend around a hundred a week.

But maybe that's cause the place we live in is having a serious economy problem.

  6. I've cut way down for 2 people. 80.00 a week now, down from about 110.00per week. BUT...I don't buy fresh fruit, I buy all cheap things ( bread, o.j. ) and mostly store brands. I make most of the food from scratch also. Every week the prices go up.

  7. Usually average about $50/wk for two of us -- but I'm a scratch cook and gardener, so the high priced stuff in my cart is usually meat, milk and fruit.  About once a month I'll do a "big shopping trip" to a nearby city to hit Costco and a much less expensive grocery store.

  8. I have 2 kids, a hubby, 4 dogs and 8 cats so my bill is around $150 a week and that includes pet supplies I need like food for all of them and cat litter.

  9. ~~I have 3 of us at home (and my son  is a body builder), so I spend anywhere from $200 to $240 a week. Now this amount includes everything I buy for the house i.e., paper goods, dog food, cleaning supplies, etc. I shop at Costco then to Vons every week and a health food store once a month. We do not snack on any snack food, we eat strictly protein and vegetables, and fruit. It just keeps creeping up a little higher every week. About 6 months ago I was averaging about $175. We eat all meals at home and rarely go out ever. I can''t honestly tell if I'm off the mark or not, but it seems to me we spend too much for 3 people with simple eating habits!~~~
