Family Records from lost county?

Doing Research on my Family,and the place were my great grandfather lived was part of Virginia until 1868. it is McDowell County, WV now, but was part of Tazewell County,VA Who would have records (Tazewell county doesn't exist anymore)

The town is called Elkhorn, WV last name Jones (only 160 people in the town)

    The parent county has records up to the time when any new county is created.  Later records will be in the 'new' county.

    Following the 'parentage' of any Virginia county is a whole different mind set.  This page seems to have a great collection of info as to the county genealogy, and records (official or otherwise) that involve that area.
