Family-base green card interview.?

Question

I'm a US citizen (currently living in the US) and I'm petitioning for both of my parents (who live in Ecuador). The interview will take place in the US Consulate in Ecuador. Can someone tell me if I have to go there for the interview, as well. Or do they just need to have a copy of all the paperwork I already submitted for them?

If they need to interview you, they will do it here. I've been working on my husbands visa for almost 2 yrs. His interview was in June 07, yet they NEVER contacted me for anything. Sure wish they WOULD!!

Be personally present for the interview and prepare to answer any inquiries on the documents you will present particularly employment and bank account records.

There's no reason for you to be there and certainly no legal requirement. Not sure  where the other person is coming from on this. There really are only a few things to prove in an IR-5 interview. One, are they your parents? A birth certificate is sufficient for that. Two, are you an American citizen? Your naturalization certificate or US passport number are all you need for that. Three, can you afford to support them above the Federal Poverty Guidlelines? That's what your Affidavit of Support is for. They have to get through the immigrant physical, of course. Otherwise, case closed, here's your visa, have a nice trip. All the paperwork you've submitted will be there at the interview. It's attached to the petition.
