Family-friendly, quasi suburban, waterfront neighborhood in Dallas?

Hello and thanks for stopping by! I am looking to relocate to Dallas with my family (soon to be 4 people!!) and am interested in your opinions on new housing pockets within 2-3 mile driving distance to "downtown Dallas" where I will most likely find a job in the digital publishing or e-commerce industry. I love the water, so an extra plus goes to people who can suggest new housing near water, and - here's the zinger - close to a Kosher supermarket.

Your answer will be greatly appreciated and I will go straight to Google with your answer.

  1. Well, first thing is first, all the lakes in Texas are all man-made except for one. The only "body of water" close to down town Dallas is the Trinity River which is a very sad river.

However, there is a kosher market called Dallas Kosher (The Vaad Hakashrus Inc.) on Northhaven Road and there is a man-made lake near there.

Northhaven road is about a 15 minute drive to downtown Dallas, which is frankly a great deal because you don't want to live too close to downtown, especially with kids. Unfortunately, you'll be in the DISD (Dallas Independent School District) which is definitely not the best.

However, there are plenty of fantastic private schools around.

  2. Depends on your budget. Turtle Creek or Highland Park are really nice and there is a Tom Thumb at Preston and Forrest which is pretty close.

  3. Given your parameters, there is no place is Dallas that fits, so your are going to have to prioritize what is most important. My suggestion is to find a place close to Richardson be cause the Tom Thumb there has a certified kosher deli and bakery, 1380 W Campbell RD. Richardson is like 14 miles from downtown Dallas and is close to DART rail for mass transit possibilities. For a good recreational lake would be Lake Lewisville is about 20 miles away.
