My sister recently gave me her old car for $5 it's a 1996 acura, i asked her more than once what she wanted for it, she responded both times "NO, i'm giving it to you" she just bought a 2004 Mercedes, the 1996 acura has 180,000 miles, body imperfect, windsheild cracked, was messy in the interior. Now my mom thinks I should pay her money for a car that i really didn't want anywase, I mean, sure for that price i'll take it,

what do you think??

personally i think it's none of her business.

  1. Get your sister to tell your mom that she doesn't want any money for the car.

  2. It sounds like your sister wanted to give you the car so she needs to talk to your mom about her wishes. Also with that many miles on the car it probably won't be long until it is in need of repairs. And if you are still living at home with your mom then it is her business.

  3. I agree with you, it's none of her business. If your sister wanted the money, she wouldn't have fought you on not paying much. In other words, tell your mom to stay out of your business. You sister's fine, you're fine, everyone's happy but her.

  4. if that was me i would make her take something for it a decent something and if she didnt i would "put" it somewhere for her to stumble upon it LOL i do that alot  but if it wasnt something you really wanted then i dont know like the other poster said get her to talk to your mom

  5. I think your mom is wrong.

And your sister did not give you the car.  She sold it to you for $5. You will have to sink money into that car to get those defective items fixed.

And at $5 the motor vehicle department will have a hard time believing you only paid $5. Go to your sister and have her write a bill of sale for $500. That way the goverment gets a couple of dollars for sales tax  and show your mom and say yeah I paid her $500 for it. Everyone's happy.

If sis can afford a mercedes (even a 5 year old one) she must be okay financially. Mom needs to be mum on this one.
