Family of Colorado shooting victim attends New York Giants’ practice session – NFL News
It was not just an average training session of New York Giants on Thursday, August 16, 2012; there were more emotions involved in it as they hosted the family of one of the victims of deadly shooting that took place in Aurora, Colorado on July 20 during
the premier of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.
In order to give some soothing to one of the affected families, Giants invited the family of Alex Teves, who had gone to see the premier with his girlfriend Amanda Lindgren.
Soon after the gunman started firing, Alex got in front of her girlfriend to take the bullet and saved her. He died immediately.
Alex’s parents Tom Teves and Caren Teves attended the practice session and they had very passionate remarks about them. Talking to ESPNNewYork.com Tom was said of Alex’s valour and courage:
"I'm not surprised he did it. Alex was the type of man who couldn't live with himself if he didn't do what he did. She was the love of his life. My wife, Caren, and I never once wished he hadn't done that."
The Teves family has always been a diehard Giants fan. Alex’s two brothers Tommy and Nick also came at the camp and had a refreshing time.
The meeting was organised by Rev. Williams, a long time chaplain of Giants.
Giants’ owner John Mara also gave game tickets to the Teves family for preseason game against rivals New York Jets on Saturday, August 18.
Tom told that Alex’s favourite player was Justin Tuck. He said:
"He loved Justin Tuck. And that's just the kind of player Alex would like, a guy who gets in there and mixes it up."
Nick was astonished to see his idol Eli Manning in front of him. Both shared some good moments alongside each other.
After going through such an ordeal, it was nice to see the family having smile on their faces. They were very appreciative of getting a chance to see the Giants up close. Tom said:
"Life will never be the same for us, because Alex isn't coming back. But we won't forget what the Giants did here. They gave us a good day when we needed one."
