I would like to know if there are any laws in Illinois regarding taking home the food left from your plate that you did not finish when dining at a restraunt at a party that was serving a "family style menu".

  1. I didn't know about any laws, it was usually up to the management's discretion.  Like if it looked like you ate most of it, you could get a box.  But if it looked like you purposely loaded up a brand new salad and a huge plate of shrimp and never touched it, then no.

  2. Laws - no. But the whole idea of family style dining is to put only enough on your plate that you can eat. Most of the family restaurants I know don't even have to-go boxes.
