Famous Badminton Players

Badminton was not only played in China, America and Indonesia but also in India. There have been a lot of professional badminton players in the past each of them has shown brilliant performance in the past. Some of the famous badminton players and their contributions are as follows:

David G Freeman:
He was born in 6 September 1920 in California. David was a very famous American badminton player. He was the best player from 1939-1942, after 1942 the country was in state of war. His father’s name was Dr. Robert Freeman. His mother was a professor. At the age of 13, his friend introduced him to badminton although he was already a junior tennis player by then.

David graduated from Pasadena High School. In Pomona College, he played golf as there was no badminton team of the college. In 1945, he graduated from Harvard Medical School. He worked as a neurosurgeon in San Diego. He married to Dolly Rees and he had three children.

Everyone called David mostly as “Pasadena Flash”. In 1949, he won ALL-England Title.

He achieved victory in Thomas cup Play also. After coming out of his retirement, he won the men’s single title in 1953. David use to say “Badminton was build for me”. After retirement, David continued his profession as a doctor. His family supported him well. He also did horse riding after retiring.

David won 4 main tournaments.

He was a really remarkable player because he could drive the shuttlecock at any specific point and earn victory. He was right handed player. David possessed a lot of characteristics including high speed and vigilant behaviour. Freeman never lost a single sport. He not only won badminton competitions but he also excelled in tennis junior Championship held on 1938 and many other table tennis tournaments.

He was undoubtedly the best player of badminton in the history of America. He died at the age of 80 on June 28, 2001.

Lucia francisca Susi Susanti:
She was born on 11th February 1971, in Indonesia. Susi won World Badminton Championship in 1993. In 1996, she won bronze medal in singles in Atlanta Summer Games event. She had many other achievements as well. Susi also participated in Barcelona Summer games and triumphed. It was the first Olympic event won by Indonesian women.

 For five consecutive years, she earned the Grand Pix title.

Zhang Ning:
She was born on 19th May 1975.She was a great player from China. In 2994 and 2008, she won a gold medal for her performance in badminton in Olympics. She also represented china in Uber Cup.

Wang Chen:
Wang Chen was born on 21 June 1976.She was a player from Hong Kong. Wan Chen won the summer Olympics badminton event in 2004. In 2006 Asian games she won gold medal.

Peter Rasmussen:
He was born on August 2, 1974. His place of birth is Denmark. He was a left hand player.
In 1997, he won IBF world Championship in Glasgow. He was mostly known as The White Chinaman. In 2004, he played his final match in Thomas Cup. Peter didn’t get hyper at match’s pressure situations, he knew how to handle the smashes made by the opponent. He won a lot of Danish national championships, Denmark Open, Nordic championships, European championships, IBF World Championships, Thomas cup (2002 Bronze, 2004 Silver), Yonex Japan Open, Yonex OCBC US Open, All-England.
Peter claimed that he was so successful in badminton only because he studied Bushido which is an ancient Japanese philosophy.

When Peter Rasmussen retired, he made his career in medicine.

In short, all of these players have been excellent performance in their respective eras. Badminton’s history has been made beautiful by the efforts of players like these and many more. Most of these players’s careers were based on badminton; while some were dominant in other sports as well.
