Famous Home schooled athletes?

Question

My high school does not let home schoolers participate in school sports, which I think is unfair to home schoolers. I was wondering who some famous athletes are who were home schooled?

Everyone else has answered the athlete question, but I wanted to chime in on the HS'ers in PS sports issue.

In my state, and in my former state, HS'ers cannot participate not because of the school, or the district it's in, but because the *state* high school athletics commisions will not allow it?

Why?

They don't allow private school students (which most HS'ers are) on public school teams.  This is because it may give a public school an unfair advantage.  They could "shop around" to private schools and homeschools looking for awesome athletes to fill out their team - even giving them incentives to play for them.

Recently some colleges and universities in our state have been recruiting high school sophomores already!!!!!

The other issue at hand is that, while your parents pay *some* taxes to your school district whether you attend there or not, the school will not receive your *state* tax funds, which can equal several thousand dollars.  For example, in my former state, we paid $650/yr to our local school district in taxes.  For every child enrolled in a public school on September 20th of each year, the schools receive an additional $5300 per student.  It works the same now in a new state, except that we pay $2400/yr to our district.

So, the public school may receive "enough" money to support you playing on their athletic teams.

Many *private* schools allow HS'ers to participate on their teams.  You usually have to pay a fee since you're not paying tuition there, but that is an option for you also.  Community teams are also an option.

I'm sorry to hear that your high school does not allow home schoolers. Ours does, but there are no home schoolers. I am not home schooled, but I know people who are.

Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow!!!  But he played HS Football at his local highschool, but was homeschooled.
