Question:

Famous Hotel in San Francisco?

When I was in San Francisco, a friend brought me to a really famous old high rise hotel that had a bar on the top floor. I don't know what area it was in, but there were lots of tall buildings around, and it was near the wharf area. Can anyone tell me the name? I thought it was Franciscan or something, but I can't find it.

  1. I agree with tonalc that you are probably thinking of the Mark Hopkins home to the famous Top of The Mark.  It is an older high rise hotel with a view bar.

One correction the other hotel with the rotating star and the beefeater doorman is the Sir Francis Drake just one block north of the St. Francis.

The only view bar that is near a wharf is was the now closed Equinox atop the Hyatt at the Base of Market Street.

Of course since SF is small [only 7X7 miles] nothing is all that far from anything else.

  2. There are several hotels that have bars on top.  Perhaps you're thinking of the Mark Hopkins, which is at the top of Nob Hill.  Or the St. Francis, which is the one that has the revolving star on top and the Beefeater outside.

Neither are on the wharf side of the hill, however.
