Famous Name heading for the Tattersalls Gold Cup after striking a hat trick in the Amethyst Stakes
K. Weld’s under charge, Famous Name made history by winning the Group 3 Amethyst Stakes a third time in a row. This time on 13th May at Leopardstown over a mile, Famous Name was ridden by P. J. Smullen.
The two raced in from the third position to the wire and the 1/5 favourite soon picked up pace and led the runner up of the race, Sweet Lightning, by four and a half lengths.
Sweet Lightning settled second with Johnny Murtagh and was soon followed by Barack who had B. A. Curtis onboard.
Weld said: "He's an amazing horse. I would believe that's a record for wins here, certainly most stakes race wins. He's a wonderful horse to train and loves being a racehorse. He'll go for the Tattersalls Gold Cup. He has been second in it before.
"He was unlucky at Sandown (third to Penitent) when the ground was just about raceable. He wants just a bit of cut in the ground. He will travel throughout the year and should come back for the (Irish) Champion Stakes here later in the year."
Dansili’s seven-year-old bay horse out of mare, Fame At Last, has been active thrice ever since the new season shot off and has bagged two races with ending third in one.
The seven-year-old cracked into the new season on 15th April in the Heritage Stakes (Listed Race) at Leopardstown over a mile. Riding with P. J. Smullen, the 9/10 favourite of the race, Famous Name, yanked away the title by a mere head’s difference.
He has an extraordinarily impressive record at Leopardstown as by now his win count at the race course has gone up to eleven.
Khalid Abdullah owned is being headed for the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup. He has been part of the race before in 2009. On 24th May, Famous Name qualified as the 9/4 favourite runner up of the race at Curragh over a mile and two and a half furlong. He was ridden by M. J. Kinane.
The race was won by the stable mate, Casual Conquest.
He has improved drastically through the years and will be entered as the definite favourite for the race as was the case previously.
The proud trainer has penciled out all the plans for his under charge and wants him racing back at Leopardstown by the end of the campaign.
