Famous Name in for popularity in the Jockey Club Of Turkey Meld Stakes
Today will be the straight fifth graded race for Dansili’s seven-year-old bay horse, Famous Name, who has recently been amassing victories and sweeping places. He is among the line-up of six three-year and above for the Group 3 Jockey Club Of Turkey Meld Stakes. They will contest the €37,375 prize money over a mile and a furlong on Thursday, 26th July at Leopardstown.
He has raced five times during the new season, penetrating into the season with a success in the Heritage Stakes (Listed Race) on 15th April, 2012 at Leopardstown over a mile.
The favourite entry was not prominent throughout the race as it was only during the early straight that the ride of jockey, Pat Smullen, started leading the final furlong but soon had the luxury invaded by the runner-up, Sharestan, who challenged the finishing of the winner in the final furlong. Famous Name could only win by a head’s margin.
This was the last listed race as after bagging it his quest for the graded races began.
The D. K. Weld trained ended third in the Group 2 Bet365 Mile on 27th April, 2012 at the Sandown race course over a mile. The race was won by, Penitent, who defeated the runner-up, Questioning, by the margin of 1 ¾ lengths.
Famous Name was entered as the favourite for a straight third time as he won the Group 3 Amethyst Stakes on 13th May, 2012 at Leopardstown over a mile. The credit for this victory was shared with jockey, Pat Smullen. He set Sweet Lightning as the runner-up while winning by the margin of 4 ½ lengths.
Filing in the third position behind the winner was, Barack.
The Khalid Abdullah owned then scored second in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup on 27th May, 2012 at Curragh over a mile and 2 ½ furlongs. The race was won by Aidan O’Brien’s charge, So You Think, while the seven-year-old settled as the runner-up after being left adrift by six lengths.
Until yet the last race and success of the bay horse out of mare, Fame At Last, was in the Group 3 Friarstown Stud International Stakes on 1st July, 2012 at Curragh over a mile and two furlongs.
The 4 to 9 entry will be paired up with jockey, Pat Smullen once again and the two will break from the third stall.
