Famous tragic love stories?

Does anyone know some really famous, preferably TRUE tragic love stories throughout history, Im thinking along the lines of Cleopatra and Marc Antony! Please help, 10 points for best answer!

Whats the one about King Arthur? I guess its not a typical tragic love story but I like it.

Its where his wife has an affair with one of his knights. When the secret gets out she is afraid for her life so flees and lives in an convent with nuns. King Arthur finds her and instead of killing her (like expected and accepted) he forgives her and confesses his undieing love for her. Its so sweet but then he says that the country would be mad if they stayed together therefore tearing it apart and as King he cant do it. So even though he loves her and finds life pointless without her, he says goodbye. Then she realizes how much she loves him and neither of them ever love again, but cant be together either.

Its not true but my friend and I love it. Its just his unconditional love for her and its so sad how he wants be with her but cant.
