Fan oven replacement

Question

I am attempting to replace the fan element. When I took the old one out I noted that the 2 white leads crimped together and in a plastic sleeve were on the rhs and the 2 yellow and green leads, not sheathed were on the lhs. What I did not appreciate was that there was a third (middle) pole attached to the bracket and therefore earthed. When the replacement part arrived it did not have the middle pole just the 2 at either end of the element. So I attached the 2 leads to the 2 poles at either end. This blew the fuse! They are sending me a new element should the element be connected by the white leads to the element and the yellow green leads to earth via the attachment plate scews?
