Go to the charity shop, get some old woman's clothes and go as Miss Marples

Here are some ideas in order of what I think would be hardest to do and most expensive to least expensive and quickest.

Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind - would take a lot of work and some money, but would be beautiful.  If you have time you could really make a breathtaking costume on this character.  Do research on Civil War Era ball gowns, or watch the movie.  

  

Sayuri from Memoirs of A Geisha - any pretty silk oriental looking dress could stand in for a kimono, geisha makeup and shiny stuff in your hair.  Get a big fan and you'll be good to go.  They made a movie based on this book too.

Daisy from The Great Gatsby.  Again, there's a movie you could watch or go for a 20's flapper look. Good if you have short hair.

Juliet from Romeo and Juliet - you could find a simple velvet dress at lots of costume shops.  Dress it up with a gold rope belt or something.  The same costume might pass for a Lord of The Rings character too.

to find your ideal character see the children's books . you can find a lot from the characters of kids stories , Cinderella , alice , snow white , pokahantes and juliet are some of the famous women in stories . however you can even be a snowman or an angle with wings!! ;)
