Does anyone know what the rate/recordings of cancer/tumors in fancy rats? In both sexes, or specifically does. I wondered what the chance is of one of my 6 does getting a tumor. Has anyone had any rats who of have had cancer, and out of how many? What can induce, prevent, or help post-surgery healing, of tumors or cancers in fancy rats?

Thanks for the answers. The more clear or informative figures you give, the higher chance you'll get of me picking you as a best answer =p

  1. no i don't sorry. :(

  2. Well, I can only give my personal experience.

    Out of 12 females I owned (including the 2 I currently have, all unspayed):

    Three developed tumors.

    Out of 9 males (including the 2 I currently have, all unfixed):

    One got cancer.

    P.S. All of mine have been pet store rats.

  3. no i don't sorry. :(

  4. Those are difficult figures to find online, because one tends to be directed to research studies using rats as test subjects. >:[ I know, I've tried. The only semi-reliable percentage I've found is that spaying reduces the risk of mammary tumors in females by 50%.

    However, you can try going to ratforum.com and asking the people in the health section about your surgery questions. I know plenty of people there have had rats with tumors, and perhaps someone there may have found some pertinent information.

    Sorry I couldn't be more help! If you do find something, please let me know. I'd be interested to read it, also! :}
