Fanfiction authors: what do the terms OC, OOC, AU, and One-shot mean? Thanks.?

  1. OC - Original character. It's when an author makes up their own character and puts it into their story amongst canon (meaning the series or whatever) characters.

    OOC - Out of character. The personalities of the characters are different from when they were in the series.

    AU - Alternate universe. This is when you put a series into another kind of universe, for example putting a fantasy story into a modern highschool setting.

    Oneshot - Only one chapter.


  2. OC- Other Character or Original Character, one that the author of the story makes up.

    OOC- Out of Character

    AU- Another Universe. It uses the same characters, but changes some elements of the story, like time or setting.

    One-shot - a story that is only one chapter.

    I was totally confused about what these terms meant when I first started fanfiction a year ago, so I hope I was able to help!
