Fang Chieh Min and Lee Sheng Mu nail Men’s Doubles title at Malaysia Open Super Series
Chinese Taipei’s impressive shuttlers, Fang Chieh Min and Lee Sheng Mu, made their presence felt to the world by winning Men’s Doubles title in the 2012 Malaysia Open Super Series at Putra Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday, January 15.
In the final contest of Malaysia Open, Taipei shuttlers overpowered Korea’s Cho Gun Woo and Shin Baek Choel in a thrilling three-set contest.
Chieh Min and Sheng Mu, who have been placed at number 13 in Men’s Doubles world standings, put up superb show of flawless badminton and nailed their first ever Super Series title.
With this victory, they are expected to reach in the top-10 bracket when the Badminton World Federation (BWF) will reveal its world rankings on Thursday, January 19.
It was a thrilling final contest as both un-seeded pairs were fighting for the title. They entertained the packed indoor arena in Kuala Lumpur with their impressive skills throughout the match.
The Korean duo took the opening set with a decent margin but their Taipei opponents levelled the match by taking the second game with a similar score. The higher ranked Chieh Min and Sheng Mu remained on track in the final set and took it with a comfortable
margin.
In the opening game, Korean shuttlers showed their impressive skills and remained ahead of their Taipei rivals in the entire first half. Chieh Min and Sheng Mu committed many unforced errors in this game and remained trailing behind their lower ranked challengers.
In the second half of the game, Gun Woo and Baek Choel remained on track by playing with aggression. They continued their positive and aggressive run against the higher ranked opponents in the whole set. Chieh Min and Sheng Mu lost the opening game with
a 16-21 score on the board.
In the second game of this contest, Taipei pair played a completely different game as they remained in superb control of rallies. Their wonderful aggressive strokes did not spare any chance for the Koreans to dominate the game anymore.
Chieh Min and Sheng Mu remained dominant in the second set and levelled the match by winning it with a comfortable score of 21-16.
In the deciding game, both pairs displayed their elevated skills and remained toe-to-toe until the end of opening half. Until the break, the score remained close from both sides.
However, Taipei shuttlers started to take lead in the concluding half of the game. They controlled the pace of rallies and forced their opponents to commit mistakes. They maintained pressure on the Koreans and ended the game with a margin of 21-16.
Chieh Min and Sheng Mu won this rubber-set title match in 51 minutes with a 16-21, 21-16 and 21-16 score on the board.
