Fans and media get first look at QB Tim Tebow at New York Jets OTAs - NFL News
Fans and the media got their first look at quarterback, Tim Tebow, on Thursday as he took part in the New York Jets training session which was open to the media.
As is usual with Tebow his passing remained a bit erratic during the session but he also showed that his unique skill set would come in handy for the Jets in a number of positions.
Tebow took part in special teams training as he lined up as a protector on the punting team and came out with flying colours impressing the coaches monitoring his performance.
Asked after training when he had last lined up in special teams he said.
"I'd have to say never."
He continued.
"It's definitely something I'm trying to get used to. It's unique, but it's fun. [I'm] having a good time out there."
The backup quarterback also practiced at his primary position with the Jets and threw two interceptions during a seven-on-seven game.
Asked how he felt after throwing the interceptions, Tebow said that he was not too bothered because this was the first time he had practiced those plays and he would continue to learn from the experience.
"It's definitely frustrating, but it's seven-on-seven and those plays are the first time I ran them. I'll learn from it. Honestly, it won't bother me again. When you make a bad play, put it behind you and move on.”
Adding further he said.
"I felt like I did, and went out in the next team period and I felt like I did OK. You have to remember where you are and what you're doing. It's seven-on-seven, the first time running those plays."
Tebow was brought in by the Jets this offseason after a trade with the Denver Broncos as backup for starter, Mark Sanchez.
The Jets have always maintained that Sanchez will remain the team’s starter and have dismissed speculations of a budding quarterback controversy.
It remains to be seen how the Jets will use Tebow in the regular season and it is possible that the quarterback will take play a role in the franchise’s special teams.
For now though the quarterback looks at home in any position.
