Fans hope Albert Pujols will stay with St. Louis Cardinals – MLB News
The passionately avid fans of the St. Louis Cardinals pinned their hopes on Albert Pujols to stay in the team after the celebrated World Series title that the team won on Friday, October 28. Albert Pujols is a free agent now officially after the end of the
2011 season.
While he received a standing ovation for his singularly amazing performance throughout the year, adding and assisting to the team’s victory, the fans also appealed to him to stay. He was offered a nine year deal last year for 190-million-dollars, something
he did not affirmatively nod to.
Tye Edwards, an ardent fan of the Cardinals serving in the military, while cheering the victory hoped Pujols would remain a Redbird, referring to the title the team always gets identified with. His was a belief that Pujols would stay with the team.
"I pointed at him and he pointed back. Once a Redbird, always a Redbird, man," Edwards said. "It's up to him to make his call. St. Louis has got his back no matter where he goes. Albert's the man.”
Albert Pujols is a free agent now. There is little known what he decides once a new offer is made to him. No matter what the decision is in the end, it is known that a large chunk of the fame he has today has actually come by the association to the Cardinals.
"And if Albert Pujols says he wants to go somewhere else for more money just to win championships? We've had three World Series here in the last 11 years. Where else can he go to get that? I think he's coming back.”
Albert Pujols set a historic record of hitting three homers in Game 3 of the World Series whereby the team beat the Texas Rangers 16-7, giving them a crucial 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. That feat helped him become a part of the elite club of one
of three hitters in the franchise’s history to have hit three home-runs in the World Series.
It will be interesting to see whether Pujols will stay with the Cardinals or look for another team with a better offer.
