Fans react to Manny Pacquiao’s knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez – Boxing News
In the recent past, eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao has become the inspiration and leader of his people in the Philippines, so much so that they idolize the Pac-man more than any other man in their country. Unfortunately, past Saturday night,
their hearts were broken when they saw their hero lose via knockout to his all time rival Juan Manuel Marquez.
“I thought he was dead and I could feel my heart skipped,” said Manny Dagala, a condominium guard in Mandaluyong City. According to him, seeing his hero lying motionless on the matt was heart breaking.
Similarly, accountant Rey Fernan San Isidro could not believe that his icon had fallen to a vicious blow by Marquez.
“Was that real? I’m disappointed. He should have concentrated on being a boxer, a boxer should be a boxer,” he said for Pacquiao, a boxer who turned politician as well recently and has won a congress seat in Sarangani.
Not just fans in the Philippines, even fans elsewhere in the world were disappointed and shocked to see Pacquiao making such a blunder. He literally ran into a bear trap set by Marquez and then was struck by lightning.
“I want him to rest now, to relax. If he wants to be a politician, let him serve and pour everything into that. ... Only God will make him stop,” said Pacquiao’s mother to DZMM radio,” when asked if the Filipino will consider retirement now.
While for fans, this is the end of Manny Pacquiao, the former WBO champion believes he still has a lot of boxing left in him. Pacquiao did not talk about the fight much. He did not have complaints or regrets, as he believed he gave fans an exciting match
to enjoy, regardless of the fact that he lost.
He thanked his fans for supporting him and claimed that he will be back to make a statement.
On the other hand, Promoter of Top Rank Bob Arum revealed that there might be a fifth fight between the two, as the rivalry has still not ended. Marquez still stands with a single win over Pacquiao, while the latter has two wins in his bag.
