Fans will get to see same replays as referees in stadiums this season - NFL News
The National Football League (NFL) is getting ready to make the fans game-day experience even better this season.
To make the fans feel more involved in games all video boards across all stadiums will now show the exact same videos that match officials are reviewing to make a challenged decision.
Home teams at first had the authority to show any replay they wished or none at all during game days but that is now about to change.
The new decision comes from the NFL Competition Committee as it looks to make the game even more exciting than it already is for fans.
Rich McKay, the chairman of the league’s competition committee told ESPN
about the new plans and said this idea was something fans had been calling for many times.
He said:
"They'll see the exact same angles at the exact same time as he [referee] does.”
Adding further he said:
"I think this is another example of the league listening to its fans about what they want from the in-game experience.”
He also went on to praise broadcasters, the league and the NFL teams for making the game-day experience better each year for the fans.
"I think throughout this edition of replay, the league, the teams and our broadcast partners have done a nice job of using the available technology to make the game better and make the experience better for the fans."
McKay said that the league was fearful of dragging out games to more than three hours due to the time it took to review the replays but he was pleasantly surprised that everything had worked out well and the experience will get even better this year with
fans also getting a look into the referee’s thought process.
He said:
"We were fearful going in about how we could pull it off. I give the league a lot of credit for pulling it off the right way."
This is a great move by the league as fans had complained of declining entertainment in stadiums with many choosing to watch games at home.
With the new replays implemented the league has surely listened to the fans and provided them with an inside view of how crucial decisions are made.
