Question:

Fantasy Baseball Keeper League Trade: Reyes for Crawford/Hardy?

Here's the situation: I'm in a fairly serious and well-managed Keeper Fantasy Baseball league. It is a 6x6 batting/pitching head-to-head league with weekly scoring. We keep 5 players at the end of the season.

My top player (both points-wise and keeper value) is Jose Reyes. I'm considering an offer to send Reyes to another team for Carl Crawford and JJ Hardy.

Here's my current roster:

C: Brian McCann

1B: Adrian Gonzalez

2B: Robinson Cano

SS: Jose Reyes

3B: Aubrey Huff

OF: Carlos Lee

OF: Corey Hart

OF: David DeJesus

Util: Geovany Soto

Util: Andre Ethier / Joey Votto / Ryan Theriot

Wondering what other people think -- I'm very hesitant to party with Reyes but I feel like the value I get back with two good players may be better...

  1. I would keep him.  I would not take the trade.  Mets are hot..

So Reyes is going to get more runs and SBs with Wright and a red hot Delgado hitting behind him.

  2. Keep reyes.  He is too good and he will always be fast and get a ton of stolen bases.  Crawford is getting old and will slow down.

  3. Do not give up Reyes. He steals enough bases to equal 2-3 players. He is still young and his power numbers will only get better with age.JJ Hardy is way to streaky and the Mets will always spend money to have good hitters behind Reyes.Crawford is awesome too but he will never hit more than 15hrs a year.Reyes develops more power every year.A player like Reyes is rare. There are tons of players that can put up Hardy type numbers.

  4. While any player is certainly for sale at any point, I wouldn't part with Reyes for Crawford/Hardy.  Hardy is a streaky player and with your roster I wouldn't consider him to be 1 of the 5 keepers.  I also prefer Reyes to Crawford as Reyes will hit for a similar average, have more steals, a little less power, but do it all from SS as opposed to OF.

I'm not as big on Crawford as a lot of people and I don't believe too much in Hardy.  You may want to try to deal one of your catchers as they'll carry lots of value due to their strong productoin at a weak position.  You should be able to get a nice return on one of those guys.
