10 man head to head league 5x5 categories. Trade deadline is coming up, should I try to package some players up and make a move? Currently I am in 2nd place out of 10 so doing pretty well. Should I stand pat and wait for guys to come off the DL or make a move to a struggling club?

  1. Good team. You could try to get a solid starter to replace Bedard and Oswalt. Try to get a different shortstop too. Tejada isn't doing so well, and the Astros manager said he's going to give him alot more days off in the second half of the season.

  2. Dice-k and Bedard cannot be counted on too heavily. I had both of them and managed to trade them away during the year. Dice-k gets wins but has way too many walks, he has been pretty fortunate so far in not giving up the big inning, but it is coming. You cannot keep walking that tightrope. Bedard is in the same boat, except he doesn't get the wins. I would trade them for a good pitcher, like Halladay or CC to name a few. Fuentes could become great trade bait if he gets dealt somewhere, cause Wood will be off the DL on Tuesday and you will need to drop someone anyway.

  3. I think you got a real nice squad. I would probably sit tight but you can probably get rid of capps as he probably will come back too late to be much good.

  4. I'd be looking to upgrade RP. If fuentes is traded he will be a setup guy. Tejada hasn't be much help for you either. Cano is hot and should have a huge second half so try to pull off a blockbuster and trade your best player Utley and a SP for a SS and a top closer.

  5. alright buddy I'll keep this one simple for you ...  your hitting is fine .. on all cylinders, you have good numbers ..  Morneau, Utley and Dunn are giving you good pop; hopefully Tejada and Cabrera join the ranks over the last 2 months of the season ...  your speed is so so but that's not a category I'd make a trade for ..  it doesn't feed off anything else, in other words...  if you hit a home run, you get runs batted in and your average goes up .. if you strike out a batter, you get the K and your ERA goes down ...  stolen bases stand alone, and it's not worth trading 3 categories to get one ... Hart and Utley seem to be your big men there .. I don't know what Tejada has done ...

in fact, that's your only issue in hitting ...  Cabrera and Tejada are underachieving this year ...  it's one of those things where on paper it looks great ... I'd know as a Yankee fan ..  if those two guys show up down the stretch, that'll be the final straw in your hitting ..

your pitching is a different story ..  though your top 5 starters are, to say the least, above average pitchers in the Major Leagues, I wouldn't count on some of the other guys you got lingering on that staff ...  keep your ears open with Fuentes, because there's a chance his fantasy impact may take a huge dip before the trade deadline ...  Oswalt and Bedard are the same story as Tejada and Cabrera, and what makes it worse is that they aren't even contributing anything to your team since they're injured ... Marmol is good, but middle relief only stands for so much in head to head leagues and once Wood comes back that'll be his role ...  I wouldn't count on Capps making a quick return either ...

I'm gonna let you in on a little something I learned ... in head to head leagues, you want 1 bench hitter, 3 closers, and every other open roster spot goes to starting pitching ...  you rack up the wins and the K's, guaranteed every week ...  you're already up 2-0 ..  pitchers pitch once every 5 days, but hitters play every day ... this means that on a Friday night when every team in baseball is playing, someone in a head to head league has three bats on his bench contributing absolutely nothing to his team when he could have 1, 2, even 3 extra pitchers going for him ... closers are good, believe me, but outside of saves, they can only do so much for your team ... on a good week, you'll get 4 innings out of your closer ...  that's not likely to make all the difference in ERA, WHIP or strikeouts, and could even make it worse if he has a bad outing .. following?  so stock up on the starters in head to head leagues ... it'll do you a lot of good ... if Josh Johnson or Francisco Liriano is still on waivers, snatch them up ...  I'd drop Sheffield (even though I said before it'd be a good pickup, he hasn't shown signs of being an impact, sorry about that) and Marmol when the time comes, at the least ...  those injuries are killing ya ... best of luck
