They want to trade---N.McLouth,T.Jones and Edinson Volquez to me for M.Holliday and Posada.... My team stinks right now and whats in it for me ? This other team has been 1-2 all year,,what am I missing on this trade ? Is it worth it ? I will lose my top catcher ,Help ...Really don't need Jones either, plus it will put me over roster size, so I will have to drop a player too ?

  1. Nothing in it for you really.

  2. Well first off you'd be much better making a coutner-offer without Jones even being involved.  That way you wouldnt be over the roster size.  The trade itself isnt horrible...especially not if you are in need of a decent starting pitcher because Volquez has been fantastic so far this season.  His team is also scoring quite a few runs for him.  Holliday hasnt been playing as well as expected, and the rockies dont look like they are going to have much protection for him in that lineup.  When Tulowitzki comes back that will help, but I just dont see him having the MVP caliber season he had last year.  Check and See if Navarro the catcher from the Rays is available.  If he is then I would probably take the trade.  Navarro doesnt have much power, but he's a solid offensive catcher who should hit around .300 on the year.  Catcher is usally a weak position anyway and Posada isn't going to give you THAT MUCH in terms of offense.  Atleast not to the point where you cant afford to get rid of him.  I'd like to see the rest of your team to be able to tell if this is completely a good idea, but I think I'd counter-offer without jones and see what happens.  Volquez is definately worth getting though if you can, and he could do nothing but help your starting rotation.

  3. This a a classic "sell-high" trade offer. The other guy trades a couple of young, possibly overachieving players, for a couple of proven veterans. The only curious thing about the offer was his including Jones. Perhaps he thought it made the offer more attractive or maybe he's just trying to dump some garbage.

McLouth and Volquez have been playing well, but so were Holliday and Posada before they were injured. He's betting McLouth and Volquez will fade while Holliday and Posada will come on strong in the 2nd half.

If your team is struggling you really have nothing to lose. I'd pass on the offer and hope your 2 guys can lift your team in the standings when they return.

  4. NO WAY this trade is a ripoff!
