Question:

Fantasy Football Draft...which two players do I take?

I am in a keeper league...looking for someone who may have some insite. I had the # 2 pick and have made some trades to get the # 1 pick also. Here is my currect roster:

Matt Leinart, Derek Anderson

Selvin Young, Michael Turner, Ryan Grant

Larry Fitzgerald, Chad Johnson

Chris Cooley

Rob Bironas, Nick Folk

I can pretty much draft any two and still use my remaining picks to fill in my roster, so I'm looking for the two best players.

Here are the top players available at each position (plus all rookies are available):

Eli Manning, Donavan McNabb, Jake Delhomme

Maurice Jones-Drew, Willis McGahee, Larry Johnson, Frank Gore

Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson, Patrick Crayton, Brandon Marshall, Roy Williams

Tony Scheffler, Todd Heap, Tony Gonzalez

Remember, this is a keeper league. Who are the best two players I can take, and why?

Thanks!!

  1. You have Chad Johnson listed as being on your team and being available.

I would say you're all set at QB since there isn't anyone better than Anderson available.  I would say that you're set at WR also, because you have two good ones, except that the WR available are really good.

If it were me I would take Frank Gore and Reggie Wayne.  That way you have Gore/Grant at RB and Wayne/Fitz at WR.  No one will beat those combos if everyone stays healthy.  Gore and Wayne are not rookies but they are young enough that keeper league means their value goes up rather than down.  Gore should be consistent this year, even if he's not a superstar.  Wayne should be a superstar.  The other RBs you have listed (L. Johnson, McGahee) might come close but will not beat Gore.

The WRs you have listed will not even come close to Wayne - unless Johnson is one of them.  He could come close, and might even have a better year, but in a keeper league Wayne is for sure the better pick.  Plus you might already have him :)

  2. I would grab up 2 RB. Gore has to be your #1 pick, with Martz running the show Gore should have top 5 numbers by seasons end. Then you need to decide between McGahee and LJ. That really comes down to personal preference, both come with some risk but both have very high reward potential. With Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson you have 2 top quality receivers (I think Johnson will have a monster season) but I am not sold on your running game. Selvin likely wont keep the starting job, having Denver backs before the season starts is a risky thing, you never know who will eventially start. Love the potential with Turner but he isnt a proven guy and have the luxury of running behind one of the top run block lines in football and after LT wore guys out. ANd with the uncertainty in GB over whether or not Rogders can move the ball will surely make some teams stack against the run (at least until Rodgers proves himself). QB and RB are the best bets for point production week in and week out, get Gore and pick between the other 2 I mention and your RB depth will be incredible (plus that will open up trade possibilities down the road for you).

  3. I would go with Chad Johnson and Frank Gore

  4. I would grab Frank Gore and Reggie Wayne.

This would give you two excellent WR options in Fitz and Wayne and Gore is the best RB available, especially when injuries and age are factored in.  You have an excellent WR to develop in Calvin Johnson and Turner and Grant are excellent as a pair of number 2 backs who could be number 1 backs...Grant will probably be more productive this year.  Selvin Young is a tough call due to being in Denver...where they like to switch their backs around.  Could even be someone else starting in Denver...though I still vote on Young getting the call.

Both of these players are young enough to keep for a number of years, and both would give you an excellent team this season rather than waiting for it.

The problem I see with the other top options are that Brandon Marshall has run into some trouble, and I still think that Wayne is the better WR...without the law problems.  Jones-Drew could be a good keeper, but I still feel like Gore will be more productive in Martz's system than Jones-Drew will be sharing the backfield with Fred Taylor.  Maybe next year, depending on Gore's success or lack of success this year, will make Jones-Drew worth more.  Manning is a nice keeper option, though I think you are already set at QB, and he isn't really an improvement over your current roster QB's.  Scheffler is a good keeper prospect, but at TE, you've already got someone young enough that I wouldn't waste a spot on him.  Plus, you can probably grab him later if your draft goes on longer.

Other than that, when it comes to keepers, I think that's about all I would go with.  Again, top picks: Wayne and Gore.

  5. I'd look at Manning. Leinart is just not impressing anyone with his lazy attitude. Derek Anderson could be something, but you need a real deal.

Your running backs are ok. wide outs ok.

If you can Wayne and Chad would be at the top of my list. The problem is with CHAD is if he comes to play or is he going to be  cry baby.

I really like Gore. He's such a work horse.

    That's my take.
