Question:

Fantasy Football : Second Pick / 16 person league?

I have the wonderful job of getting the second pick in a 16 person league. The league emphasizes QB's and definitely would be good to take a QB first pick but I doubt that any RB's that are huge playmakers will be available when the pick comes around at 31. If you were me what would you do?

Just the first five rounds (ex. QB, RB, RB, WR, WR)

  1. I feel there are 2 elite backs this year: LT and S. Jackson.  With the 2nd pick you will get one of them.  That is what I would do even if QBs are emphasized.  So RB, then whatever is of best value.  Remember, there is little difference stats wise between QB 5 and QB 20.  Good Luck!

If Minn. would commit to running AP atleast 80-85% of the time I might consider taking AP w/ the 2nd pick.  Since they insist on running a 60-40 at RB,  I would not pick him 2nd.  People tend to only remember the 200 yard games he had last year.  They forget about the 40 and 7 yard games.  Jackson will 80-150 yards every game, will tote the ball 90% of the time, will score 100% of their short yardage TDs and will play in the soft NFC West.  You'll see, he will be worth the no. 2 spot.

  2. I don't think that Jeff is retarded, but I do think he's way off base on his QB comparisons.  I have no idea what point system the OP is using, but one of my leagues heavily favors QBs as well, and the difference between the #5 QB (points average from the last 3 seasons) and the #20 QB is almost 100 points, or a about 6 points a week over 16 weeks.  That seems significant to me.  In that same league the difference between the #5 and #20 RB is only 73 points, or about 4.5 points a week.  I can't stress enough how important it is to know and understand the effects of different scoring systems.

Glennfb77, I think it would be tough to pass on Peterson with the second pick.  But if you really want a top-notch QB you could always consider trading the #2 pick to another team, possibly for multiple early and/or mid-round picks.  Then you'd still be able to get a top QB, and with the extra picks you recieved you'd be able to likely get depth at RB to make up for the fact that you might not have a top 5 guy.  Alternatively, you could not draft a top QB and load up on RBs and WRs and hope to make a trade for a top QB after the draft.  I don't know how your league is, but in mine we have guys who hoard QBs just to so they can trade them later.  16 teams is a deep leauge, and it seems like it would be extremely hard to have great starting talent and quality depth at each position.  I think you should determine what positions you want to be strongest at and plan your draft strategy accordingly.

  3. Jeff, you are retarded, take peterson with the 2nd pick if LT goes first, and vise versa. Good Luck.

  4. If guy in front of you takes LT, then take Adrian Peterson. If they guy in front of you takes Peterson, then take LT, it's as simple as that.

  5. Either LT or Adrian Peterson (Minn) for sure.
