Question:

Fantasy Football help please!!?

In my league, the scoring is set up a bit differently from the average scoring system. Every reception is 1 point. Therefore, runningbacks like westbrook and LT are so much more valuable than a player like steven jackson or joseph addai who put up comparable numbers in the rushing yards category. However, these backs are going to be long gone by my pick bc i pick 11/12.

My questions (considering that one reception is equal to 10 yds rushing): Is the first or second round too high to take reggie bush ? he is a projected 4th rounder but his value is higher in our league and i cant see him lasting to the 11th pick in the third round.

At pick #11 what is the best route to go for round 1 and 2?

RB RB?

RB WR?

QB RB?

  1. Hi Dan,

By my calculations, Bush was 26th in fantasy points per game (10.8) among RBs in 2007 if you use the standard scoring system. Reggie had 88 receptions in 2006 and 73 receptions in 2007. Since he will more involved in the passing game this year, let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say he beats his career best and puts up 90 receptions.

If you add those 90 receptions (at 1 point each) to his fantasy point output from 2007, it would have added 90 points on top of his 130 point output from other statistical categories (not bad at all). That would have put Reggie at 220 fantasy points and an average of 18 points per week.  In contrast, Tomlinson would have put up 22 fantasy points per game under PPR.

So, I would say that Reggie moves from 26th overall to about 8-12th overall in PPR league (end of 1st round, early 2nd). If you think he could actually make some noise in the return game, it would justify something closer to 8th.

At the 11th pick you can parlay 2 pretty good RBs and I think this is going to be your best option, something like Ryan Grant then Larry Johnson.  If you think you can get a diamond in the rough RB in round 3, you could take a chance and land one of the top WRs in TO, Randy Moss, or Braylon Edwards.  I wouldn't select a QB until mid-draft.

If you check out the link in my source list, you can see my website where I provide rankings for all fantasy positions. If you research my rankings you can get an idea of what RBs should be available at the end of Round 1 and beginning of Round 2. On my site you can also create your own rankings using drag and drop, then generate a printable fantasy football cheat sheet to take to your fantasy draft.  It's free.

  2. QB

    RB

The two most important positions on the field.

  3. I am also in a couple of point-per-catch leagues. Last year Reggie Bush went 11th overall in one of my leagues. Coming off of his injury and a subpar season I would wait until your 3rd round selection. I would bet he'll still be there. If not, someone else is a taking a bit of a risk. I like Marion Barber this year, though he may be gone by that point. My dream scenario if I were you would be getting two of the following with your first two picks: Marion Barber, Marshawn Lynch, Larry Johnson, and Frank Gore. Unfortunately you will probably be lucky to get one of those. Therefore, since the next tier of RB's is not much different from you will get in the third round. Here's how i'd go:

    1-RB(Marshawn Lynch)

    2-WR(Terrell Owens)

    3-RB(Reggie Bush)

    4-WR(Brandon Marshall)

    5-QB(Carson Palmer)

  4. his value is alot higher in your league but i wouldn't take him in the first round. even in your league Terrel Owens or randy Moss can get more points than him. but if u dont have those players available at your pick than I'd suggest a QB than getting bush i dont think he'll be chosen in the first round; it's very unlikly.

  5. Reggie Bush is incredibly overrated. His stats just aren't that good. I think you should certainly pick a RB with the first pick. Joseph Addai will get some receptions, and steven jackson will as well. Those 2 guys are excellent pickups. With your 2nd pick, look at the best available RB, if he scored less points than the best available QB last year, than go with the QB, and vice versa.

  6. First round, pick 11, I'd take a top back. You could probably get LJ or clinton portis, who have alot of receptions and good rushing attributes. Then in second round you could get Jacobs, who might look tempting, but I'd take Steve Smith or Larry Fitzgerald because they seem much more valuable than any other back. If you take reggie bush earlier than 3rd to 5th round you've made an incredible mistake because he's incredibly OVERATED
