Fantasy Premier League: The Team of Gameweek 3 Review – Jose Bosingwa, Ashley Young – Part 2
After going through the highest scoring goalkeeper for the Gameweek, Tim Howard (Everton) and the two highest scoring defenders, Emmerson Boyce (Wigan Athletic) and Martin Skrtel (Liverpool), it is now time to continue looking at the 4-4-2 formation’s team
of the week.
Ryan Shotton (Stoke City)
Selected by only 0.3% of managers, it seems even Stoke City fans did not expect Shotton to be capable of earning that many points. However, after a dismal first two games, the defender helped his reputation a great deal by earning 9 points for the eagle
eyed few, who were brave enough to pick him.
Coming on as a substitute usually means a lower chance of earning any points, yet Shotton bucked the trend as he managed to get his name on the score sheet and earn an astonishing 9 points in just 16 minutes of gameplay.
Jose Bosingwa (Chelsea)
It has been a while since Jose Bosingwa, the Chelsea wing-back, has been mentioned in the fantasy premier league world in a positive light. Out due to injury and then out of form, the initially promising Portuguese right-back fell out of favour with the
majority of Fantasy Premier League managers.
However, he announced himself in some fashion in the previous Gameweek, when he rifled a low, flat shot towards the opposition’s goal and found the back of the back of the net after it skimmed off the post.
With 6 points in the bag for the goal, it seemed likely the right-back would end up with double figures come the end of the match, yet it was not to be as Chelsea conceded in almost comical fashion. A yellow card meant another point was deducted, but the
2 bonus points did undo some of the damage as Bosingwa settled for an impressive 9 points.
Midfielders
Gameweek 3 was one where a number of different players earned a fair amount of points, however, as with all things a few stood out.
Ashley Young (Manchester United)
We should all be grateful that Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson does not play Fantasy Premier League otherwise we would be in trouble. Everyone hailed the capture of Ashley Young from Aston Villa, but few could have predicted his impact.
Amassing an incredible 23 points this Gameweek, Young is the player with the most points earned over the weekend, though for Arsenal fans it may be a sad and depressing statistic.
Young was on fire as he scored two sublime goals in Manchester United’s 8-2 rout of Arsenal. 3 Bonus points mixed in with the 3 assists meant that Young earned 12 points without the goals even being factored in.
Even a one-point deduction could not stop the winger as he truly gave one of his most rewarding performances to date.
At 10-million, he may be on the slightly expensive side but with 20.3% of managers selecting him in their respective squads, it seems that the price tag is not an issue.
