Which type of WR would you guys select with a late round pick:

1.a veteran who has had a down year or two (Muhammed, Darrell Jackson, Bennett)

2. A good WR who is hurt the first month of the season (Branch, Curtis, Engram)

3. A young guy (Meachem, Hardy, Des. Jackson, Hester)

I am a league that you can have a max of 4 WR so I was wondering which group has the best risk vs reward.

Thanks

  1. 1

  2. I think its important to have a good mix on the bench.  You want the Derrick Masons and Reggie Browns to plug in on bye-weeks, but you also want the Meachems and Desean Jacksons to potentially become starters.

Id say take the consistently average guys in the mid-late rounds, and the young fliers in the end before TE/K/DST

  3. Id go with the young guys for a late round pick.   Those are ur sleeper wide receivers, that noone knows what they can do.  Kind of like Colsten came out of know where.  You can hope ur young guy u pick up can do the same.   I say Desean Jackson will.

  4. When you're taking a flier with a late pick, I'd definitely go with a young guy with a lot of upside.

You mentioned Meachem, he's a guy I really like.  He was a great WR in college and he's having a great preseason.  You should also target Anthony Gonzalez, a lot of people are expecting him to put together a great year.

With WR you have the elite guys...  And then you have the rest of the pack and you never know what you're going to get from them on a week to week basis.  So in my opinion, I'd much rather take a chance on a young guy who has the potential to break out than an over-the-hill WR who is fading and has injury problems.
