i'm talkng specifically about its growth and coverage on the internet.

for comparison purposes, this question is more applicable if you played in the days of hand-scoring from a newspaper and before the days of daily updates and analysis. but all opinions are welcome, pre-internet or post.

  1. Cool question!

I'm hard pressed to say it is worse in any way.  I had some horrific scoring disputes based on the box score in differing newspapers.  I lost an expensive playoff berth based on some last minute 'faxed' roster shenanigans.

Modern internet management is clean, user-friendly, easy for the simpletons, and blessed with the near sexual experience of live scoring through StatTracker.

As a bonus, it's so efficient that I can manage my leagues, and not ignore the family...

roadkill manages a full-blown network (okay "Empire"), so he's more an authority on the "pain" of the sport from a provider aspect.

I have 19 years in the books, and I look forward to the season more than ever.

  2. I've only played in the modern age..Started in 02.  My hats off to the old timers that did it all by hand..Fantasy has changed the way many people watch sports.  The NFL, MLB, and all the others have benefited.  I used to just follow my Raiders..Since I started fantasy, I follow everyone.  I can name the starting qbs, rbs, tes, and wrs from every team.  It made watching football so much more fun.  It is much easier now, but isn't that a good thing?

  3. We are in our 18th year of fantasy football.  Our first few years where done by hand and pencil.  Then we moved up to e-mail.  Then we moved up to keeping score manually on microsoft excel.  Actually this is our first year of online scoring at www.myfantasyleague.com

Give me an e-mail address I will send you last years results on excel( I can send the season)

There was no ADP a few years ago, you had to learn.  One of my early years I picked up Fantasy Football Index.  In the magazine it had Curtis Martin as a sleeper because he came out of college with knee problems but was a stud.  In the very last round with the very last pick I picked him up.  The whole room went, who, hah, are you confused and so on.  Now look at Curtis Martin first few years.  To this day I buy fantasy football Index every year.  We have had 10 owners since day 1.  I have never finished worse than 4th.

1 philosophy I have alway had is draft a rookie RB.  I have picked up Curtis Martin, Marshall Faulk, LT, Shaun Alexander, Addai, Larry Johnson and so on.  Last year I could have picked up Peterson with my first pick( We always keep 3 and can pay extra for a 4th) but I did not like the value due to he was a backup at that time. I think I made a mistake on that one. LOL  Last year I picked up Jackson at Green Bay- Win some lose some.  2 years ago someone in our league finally figured this out.  You would be surprised on what a good rookie RB you can find in the mid rounds. Most likely you are picking up WR that will not play so go for it.

I like that RB out of Pittsburgh for a late round choice.  Maybe even Torian (Denver) for a pick in the last round, they really like him.

  4. I've been playing since the early 90's & in short fantasy has become a lazy man's game. way too much info out there at the click of a mouse. i liked the days when you did all the leg work yourself & have went BACK you doing it w/ out the mags etc. but the reading is on the net & i'm not dumb enough to take advantage of the info.

i remember getting line-ups handed to me on a scrap piece of paper & scoring the league from the USA Today, watching the games & scoring in my head to see how I was doing for LIVE scoring.
